Breast care center at Englewood Hospital receives accreditation
The Leslie Simon Breast Care and Cytodiagnosis Center at Englewood Hospital and Medical Center was recently granted a three-year, full accreditation designation by the National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers (NAPBC), a program administered by the American College of Surgeons. Englewood Hospital, the only NAPBC accredited hospital in Bergen County, was the first in New Jersey and is one of only three hospitals statewide to receive this prestigious designation.

"We are very proud of this prestigious recognition by the NAPBC," says Dawn Hegadorn, administrative director for The Leslie Simon Breast Care and Cytodiagnosis Center at Englewood Hospital and Medical Center. "This accreditation is validation of the expertise and dedication of our multidisciplinary team and our commitment to the highest standards for quality care possible for our breast cancer patients."

Accreditation by the NAPBC, administered by the American College of Surgeons, a professional organization dedicated to improving the care of surgical patients, is granted only to those centers that are voluntarily committed to providing the best possible care to patients with diseases of the breast. Each breast center must undergo a rigorous evaluation and review of its performance and compliance with NAPBC Standards. To maintain accreditation, centers must monitor compliance with NAPBC standards to ensure quality care and undergo an on-site review every three years.

"The Leslie Simon Breast Care and Cytodiagnosis Center continues to be a national model for breast care," says Miguel Sanchez, M.D., medical director, The Leslie Simon Breast Care and Cytodiagnosis Center at Englewood Hospital and Medical Center. "Our experienced physicians, surgeons, oncologists, radiologists and pathologists review each case as a team in order to tailor personalized cancer treatment and management strategies. Through educational, preventive, treatment and post-treatment programs, we have helped to improve the health of many patients in our community and region."
